Trivia
During production planning for this film, the studio contacted American Airlines to request information about its "CARE Team" in order to portray the movie airline's response team more accurately. American declined, seeing no upside in being associated with a film about a crash.

M. Emmet Walsh and Harrison Ford appeared together in the 1982 Ridley Scott movie Bladerunner.

The simulated plane crash that starts the film was so realistic that 40 people called 911, convinced that it was a real disaster.

Goofs
When Dutch Van Den Broeck dials *69 to find out the phone number of the last caller he actually dials #69.
Dutch and Kay exit the airport, presumably either Reagan National or Dulles, upon their return from Miami. Dutch says something like, "I live in Northwest," referring to NW Washington DC. The Lincoln Memorial is behind them as they drive across Memorial Bridge, which means they are going into Virginia and away from DC, which is the wrong way.

In some Washington, D.C. scenes the Washington monument has scaffolding surrounding it and in others it is in its normal state.

Dutch Van Den Broeck: You're supposed to be nice to me. I've been shot.

Kay Chandler: You know those drugstore kits that tell you when you're pregnant? They should have one that tells you when you're sane.

Phyllis Bonaparte: I really don't think you should be alone right now.
