Originally director John Dahl wanted Dennis Hopper to play Wayne Brown, but he insisted on playing Lyle from Dallas. Hopper eventually convinced the producers who were thrilled with the end result.

Significant portions of this "Wyoming" film was shot on location in Montana, writer/director John Dahl and his brother, writer/producer Rick Dahl's home state, as well as Arizona.

The late William Olvis (he passed away May 6, 2014) wrote the musical score that added so much to its suspense of this movie. He's famous for his beautiful soundtrack for the TV series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and has scored 18 other movies.

When Lyle and Michael are discussing both being in the Marine Corps; Lyle refers to Michael as "soldier" and at the end of the same conversation Micheal calls Lyle, "soldier." It is unlikely that either marine would refer to another Marine as "soldier," but would call him or her "marine", "jarhead", "leatherneck" "devil dog" or even "gyrene" instead.

It appears Hopper had an automatic pistol that he had fired once in shooting out the windshield. Cage was aware that the magazine clip had been removed from the weapon that ended on the seat of the car, placed there by Walsh who picked up the weapon from the ground and was retrieved by Boyle before taking it on the train with Cage. it seems there should have been a round in the automatic's cylinder even though the clip was removed. I do not know much about weapons but I thought people got killed daily by weapons they believe are empty because the clip was removed.It seems it should have fired once at Cage when the trigger was pulled.

When Michael is driving to the gas station on the highway, the Cadillac's gearshift lever is in "Park".
