Firstborn son Gil was said to have been born right after the Carter-Reagan election (1980), making him 26 at most (assuming the movie takes place in 2006). However, the Gilbert Cup, a competition between the three siblings, is in its 25th year, and Will makes a reference to Gil being born "over thirty years ago".

After the flashback scene in which Dil throws a lawn dart which clearly lands in Gil's right foot, Gil says, "Ever since that day, I can't fully transfer my weight to my left foot."
