Portions of an abandoned lumber mill owned by Oregon American were burned for this movie.

The small town is actually Vernonia, Oregon.

The wreckage from the train crashing into the river is still there today, decades later! The wreckage is located at N 47°19.785 W 123° 38.595, along the Wynoochee River, near the Olympic National Forest in Washington State.

For some shots of the actors in cars the windshields have been removed. Sometimes the front, sometimes the rear, sometimes both.

Early in their hike through the woods, the teens and the Sheriff emerge from the thick trees to the side of a stream. Shadows from crew and equipment clearly move across the ground in front of the party.
