Trivia
The song playing during the double date between Viola/Sebastian, Eunice, Duke, and Olivia is one of Sebastian's songs. Olivia reads the lyrics of the song out loud the first time she and Viola/Sebastian work as lab partners and later she recites the same lyrics to the real Sebastian.

When they first started filming, Amanda Bynes couldn't play soccer at all. Nevertheless, Bynes does most of her own playing in the movie.

Based loosely on William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night, or What You Will". The school is called Illyria, which is the name of the country where the play takes place. Duke Orsino's character is based on Orsino, a duke. Duke's friends are named Toby and Andrew; in the play, Toby is Olivia's uncle and Andrew is one of her suitors. However, in the play, Viola is not impersonating her brother in particular, just a man, and she calls herself Cesario, which is the name of the restaurant seen where Sebastian/Viola breaks up with Monique and where Duke, Olivia, Eunice, and Sebastian/Viola briefly double date. On Viola's first day at Illyria, she walks by a school theatre playbill entitled "What You Will."

Goofs
After Malcolm gives Olivia his flyer for his missing tarantula, he walks away and gives more people the flyer and keeps going. In the next scene, he is back where he was before, giving the same people another flyer.

In the carnival scene when Justin and Duke are fighting, the tip of Justin's underwear can be seen over his pants. It changes from white to black, and then back again to white in between shots. It is pointed out in the pop-up trivia version that his stunt double was wearing black underwear.

Near the beginning of the film, when we first meet Monique, and she thinks Viola is Sebastian, Viola turns around and her ear is sticking out through her hair. The next shot is of the back of her head, and her ear is slightly covered up, but still visible. The next shot is her face, and you can just make it out if you look closely. In the next shot, again of the back of her head, her ear is totally covered up with her hair.
