Trivia
According to 'Steven DeKnight', the network wanted more of a 300 (2006) style of direction. This is why the pilot episode feels so out of place and the earlier episodes are uneven. DeKnight had to fight for control over the show.

Lucretia never speaks directly to Oenomaeus. (She once agreed with his suggestion for him to fight Theokoles in "Shadow Games" but she was speaking to her husband.)

Q
Why did the show end after only 3 seasons?
A
Steven S. DeKnight stated on a commentary for an episode of War Of The Damned that he originally planned for 5 seasons. However, DeKnight felt that the story he wanted to tell could be told in 3 seasons (technically 4 if you count Gods Of The Arena). He had planned the first season ending with the uprising, as it did. The second season being the battle of Vesuvius and defeating Glaber, as it was. Seasons 3 and 4 would have been the slow build of Spartacus' army and defeating other generals that he did battle against. The fifth and final season would have seen Spartacus confronting Marcus Crassus. DeKnight felt that seasons 3 and 4 would have been repetitive and fairly similar in structure to the final season, so by the time Spartacus finally faced-off against Crassus, the story would be stale and uninteresting. Therefore DeKnight decided to skip right ahead to the final season of Spartacus having a massive army to do battle against Crassus.
Q
Why did Aurelia kill Numerius?
A
Spartacus tells Aurelia that Numerius ordered him to kill Varro. When Aurelia learns Numerius' name, she asks him about Varro. Numerius scoffs at mention of Varro's name and says that Varro was "nothing" and that "he deserved to die.". Naturally Aurelia didn't take too kindly to Numerius' attitude towards her husband's death.
Q
What happens to Julius Caesar?
A
Julius Caesar went on to become the first citizen of Rome, turning the republic into an empire until he was stabbed to death on the floor of the senate house. He named his nephew Octavian (later naming himself Augustus) his son and heir to carry on his legacy. Those who enjoyed Spartacus may enjoy the HBO series "Rome" which follows the exploits of Julius Caesar, Marc Antony, Octavian and several others.
