Trivia
A new ingredient for this fourth film is that the protagonist doesn't know she is half alien. Miranda's re-birth halfway though the film proved different as past versions have begun with the characters as a child before making their chrysalis in the first and third films. The story begins with Miranda as a young woman, not a little girl like Sil in the first film, or Sara in the third film.

The producers wanted to go back to H.R. Giger's designs of the alien creature due to popularity with fans and the absence of this decision in Species III (2004). The original look is apparent but with different color variations and new spikes on the aliens' wrists of the nemesis. It is also a first in the series that a half human-half alien character does not change fully into the alien creature but has prosthetic eyebrows, veins and contacts for a long period of time in more than one scene.

It is the first film of the Species franchise that does not feature Natasha Henstridge, who played Sil in the first film as well as Eve in the two previous movies (Even though her role in Species III was a small cameo).

Goofs
When Azura is lying dead at the bottom of the pit and Tom looks at her, you can clearly see she is wearing body-suits from the waist downwards.

When Miranda is 'born' the second time and she gets up after rolling on the floor you can clearly see she is wearing skin-colored underwear to cover herself below the waist.

Q
What are the differences between the SyFy TV-Version and the Unrated Version?
A
For the boradcast on SyFy Channel, only a reasonable amount of violent scenes were put in Species IV - The Awakening. Moreover there mustn't be any explicit nudity scenes and no bad language either, which is quite unsuitable with this franchise. As a result of that, almost anything was modified / censored: apart from some tightened plot for commercials, many scenes were shortened, contained alternate, more harmless footage plus digital image and dialog modifications. Nevertheless the shorter version was edited with care - as usual. It's pretty nice to watch even though a lot of visual appeal is missing. A detailed comparison between both versions with pictures can be found here.
Q
How does the movie end?
A
Tom takes Miranda back to Forbes' lab where he performs an ultrasound and finds that she is pregnant. Miranda informs him that her human side is dying and reminds him what he must do. Before Tom can do anything, the lights suddenly go out and he is attacked by Azura (Marlene Favela). Miranda transforms into alien form and stops Azura by coughing up three tentacle darts that pierce Azura's chest. However, Azura retaliates by stabbing Miranda through the back with her wrist tentacles. Tom finally kills Azura with a shotgun blast. As Miranda, back in human form, lies dying on the floor, she says to Tom, 'Thanks for giving me life.' In the final scene, Tom releases several canisters of gas and lights a Bunsen burner. He is then shown walking away from the building as it explodes into flames.
