During the ambulance chase scene, an Afghani jumps from a horse to the back of the ambulance. An Afghani rolls from the back of the ambulance to give the audience the impression that he didn't make the jump. But if you look closely, you can see the first Afghani's headdress.
During the "negotiation" scene all Russians are shown as awarded two times Golden Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union which is a highest Soviet award. Assuming they all where awarded by one for "saving the world" it's unlikely to believe they all committed another deed of the same scale before.
The gold-bordered, blue ribbon which Generals Sline and Miegs wear on their right side is the Presidential Unit Citation. While it is correct for U.S. Army personnel, such as General Miegs, to wear the Presidential Unit Citation above the name tag, U.S. Air Force personnel, like General Sline, actually wear the ribbon on their left side, along with all other ribbons and devices.
