In France, this series was dubbed in an irreverent way, ad-libing a lot thus departing from the original scripts and using very funny, often absurd colloquialisms and phrases. Because of that, although retaining its drama flair, in France, it had more of a comedy element to it, more so than its American version, making the characters even more quirky and lovable. The French dubbing owes a big part of this show's success and popularity in France. (The same thing happened there with the dubbing for The Persuaders, UK series).

Goofs

The Ford Gran Torino was an automatic, yet Starsky's car always had the very obvious sound that could only be made by a standard (or stick) shift.

Throughout the series the rear-view mirror of Starsky's car is often missing when we see a two-shot of the guys in the car from the front through the windscreen. However in other shots of the car in the same scenes the mirror is almost always clearly in place.

Frequently throughout the series, a criminal will be seen using a revolver with a silencer attached. A silencer is useless on a revolver (except for the Russian Nagant M1895) as the sound of the gunshot will escape through the cylinder gap, the space between the front of the cylinder and the muzzle.

Faq

What guns do they use?

-In the pilot Starsky uses a 1911A1 style pistol and Hutch a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver. Early in the episode, while going over their checklist of items, Starsky's gun is referred to as a Beretta, but that is not what he is using. By the time of the regular series Starsky has swapped to a Smith and Wesson model 59 in 9mm and Hutch a Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver. In the first couple episodes, he used a Python with a 4" barrel and then began using a 6" Python for the remainder of the series. Previously, David Soul's vigilante cop character in the Dirty Harry film "Magnum Force' used a Colt Python with a 4" barrel.
