Several members of the Pittsburgh Penguins make appearances in the movie. The most prominent member was Luc Robitaille, who scored the game tying goal. Markus Näslund - virtually an NHL unknown at the time, but later a league superstar with the Vancouver Canucks - also appears. The Chicago Blackhawks were played by the Cleveland Lumberjacks (Pittsburgh's IHL affiliate at the time). Ian Moran (a Lumberjack at the time; now in the NHL) played Chris Chelios.
The announcer used in the movie is actually the Pittsburgh Penguins' real announcer Mike Lange. He also uses some of his trademark sayings such as "Scratch my back with a hacksaw" and "Call Arnold Slick in Turtle Crick". The color commentator is also the current Penguins radio play by play man, Paul Steigerwald.
McCord states that his son is sitting in D10, however in the Civic Arena (formerly Mellon Arena) the location where McCord's children are seated is actually C10.
In the last minute of any period the clock shows tenths of seconds. In the last period of the game in the movie in one shot it shows the clock correctly, then in the next it doesn't show the tenths of seconds.
McCord: [their last conversation, until the end of the movie]
... Don't you move. If you need to piss, you sit here and go in your pants; it'll serve you right. But, if the dome is falling down around your ass, *Don't move*! Understand?
