The batter at home plate when the camera pans Veterans Field (Chatham's real home field on Cape Cod, the one with the playground) is Hyannis's Brendan Harris, who made his major league debut in 2004 with the Chicago Cubs.

Marc Blucas' character can be seen wearing a Wake Forest baseball cap early in the movie. It is black with a yellow "WF" on the front. Blucas actually attended and played basketball on a full scholarship to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem North Carolina. He started along with Tim Duncan there.

Goofs
Near the beginning of the movie, the brief shot of the light stanchion clicking on (to illuminate the field for a night game) is actually a reversal of the actual footage. This was done for effect as mercury-vapor lights (commonly used in such applications) take some 4-7 minutes to achieve full brightness after being switched on. Now, they do (almost) go completely dark when turned off (with a faint glow lasting for a short while). If you view this closely, you'll notice that the lights are glowing at first and then snap up to full bright.

We see several shots of two players on the same team wearing the number "26".

Brubaker slides home head first. As he comes to the dugout, he is giving his team mates high-fives. The front of his uniform is spotlessly clean.
