Trivia
On the DVD commentary, the Science Adviser Brian Cox bets the viewer £10 that they (CERN) will not discover the Q-ball particle that disables the Sun in this film's plot. He invites an email to claim the bet. That claim is due in 2017. (In the same commentary, Prof. Cox also says that scientists do not gamble!)

Cillian Murphy & Rose Byrne also worked alongside Danny Boyle & Alex Garland in the 28 days/weeks later movies. Cillian Murphy played Jim, a hospital patient & survivor of the original Rage virus epidemic in 28 days later. Rose Byrne played Major Scarlett Levy, a US Army officer in the movie 28 weeks later.

Corazon's body, which crashes past Capa during the airlock breach, was actually a dummy. The crew found the replica of Michelle Yeoh incredibly creepy due to its realism.

Goofs
As pointed out by one of the characters, the ship enters the "blackout" area around the sun (and loses contact with Earth) anomalously early, before Mercury's orbit in fact. Communications from this close to the sun are not a problem in reality (and were possible with 1970s technology), but the writer and director took deliberate creative license to improve the tension.

At the beginning of the movie the ship is 36 million miles from the Sun, and thus the Sun would appear about (93/36)^2 = 6.7 times brighter than it would on Earth. But the computer says that at 4% transmission through the screen, the Sun would cause eye damage - despite being four times fainter than it would appear on Earth (and we know that in the story the Sun at Earth is fainter than we observe it today). Still, at 36 million miles, the Sun would only be about 1.3 degrees in angular size - much smaller than one's fist at arm's length.

Critical damage is caused to Icarus II by sunlight reflecting off a communications tower onto the structure. Yet, when Icarus II approaches Icarus I - much closer to the sun - its shield reflects sunlight onto the rear of Icarus I with no ill-effects to that ship at all.

Quotes
Pinbacker: At the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. Then the moment will pass. Man will be gone. There will be nothing to show that we were ever here... but stardust.

Searle: It's invigorating. It's like... taking a shower in light. You lose yourself in it.

Corazon: [stepping between fighting crew members] Air's low. We need to limit our exertions.

Q
Was the final scene filmed in Sydney?
A
Q
What is the "dead zone" that Mace and Kaneda are talking about?
A
The sun itself gives of an almost incomprehensible amount of radiation, heat and energy, enough to span the 93,000,000 mile (149,668,992 km) distance between it and the Earth, which receives all its heat, light and energy over that tremendous distance. As the ship approached the sun, the radiation become much more intense, enough to disrupt (or perhaps absorb) all radio signals being sent back to Earth. Icarus II enters the dead zone a week earlier than the crew had calculated. The Icarus I also encountered the dead zone during it's mission seven years ago.
Q
What's with the flashing images on Icarus I?
A
The flashing images were of the Icarus I crew members. While searching Icarus I, Searle comes across the photo of the crew members wearing Hawaiian shirts (similar to the photo of the Icarus II crew members, who were wearing Santa hats). The similar photos of the two crews hint that what kept the Icarus I from accomplishing its mission is what is happening to the crew of the Icarus II.
