Trivia
Kathryn Bigelow was the first woman to win an Oscar for Best Director for The Hurt Locker (2008), and only the fourth to be nominated. Out of the five nominees that year who were predominantly male, she was also the oldest.

Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron were the first ex-spouses to compete for the Best Director Oscar.

For the first time since 1944, there were 10 Best Picture nominees.

Goofs
Samuel L. Jackson states that Up is the second film to be nominated for both Best Picture and Best Animated Film. This is incorrect since the only other animated film to be nominated for Best Picture was Beauty and the Beast, but it was not nominated for Best Animated Film. The category didn't exist in 1991.

Quotes
Steve Martin: Meryl Streep holds the record for most nominations as an actress. Or as I like to think of it, most losses.

Steve Martin: Oh, look, there's that damn Helen Mirren!

Cameron Diaz: Jude, when we're making movies... um, wait. I'm sorry. They didn't fix the Teleprompter.

Q
Will this year's awards follow the same approach as last years?
A
Producers Bil Mechanic and Adam Shankman have confirmed that this year's awards will bring back many of last year's well received elements, such as having five past winners present the Acting awards. In addition, David Rockwell, the set designer of the 81st Oscars, has been hired by producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman to design the set for the 82nd Oscars, and Gina Tuttle, the announcer of last year's awards, will return for this year's ceremony.
Q
Why were there ten Best Picture nominations instead of five?
A
Previous Academy President Sid Ganis made the decision of having ten Best Picture nominees at the 2010 ceremony due to the controversy over the "snubbing" of multiple films in the category at the 2009 ceremony, including The Dark Knight and WALL·E, when there were only five nominees. The decision of having ten Best Picture nominees will allow for more of the Best films of 2009 to be acknowledged without the snubbing of some. This is the first time since 1944 that there will be ten nominees in the category. During the first ceremony, 1928, there were only three Best Picture nominees, and from 1945 until 2009, there were five.
Q
Why were there two hosts instead of just one?
A
Producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman have chosen both Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin to host as the two are considered to be longtime rivals and worst enemies on "Saturday Night Live", and it will probably allow for some humor between the two during the telecast.
