Trivia
Stunt pilot, Derek Piggott, flew both Stachel's and Von Klugermann's planes for the bridge storming scene. With multiple camera angles (including one from a trailing helicopter) Piggott actually flew under the bridge over twenty times. To prove that the sequence was real, sheep were placed in the field next to the bridge so that they would scatter as the plane approached. However, as can be seen in the continuity, by the 20th take the sheep had become blasé and didn't scatter any more.

In some scenes George Peppard was actually flying his plane.

The Irish Air Corps also lent their facilities at Casement Aerodrome (Baldonnel) to filming, however after filming, many of the aircraft replicas remained in storage between Casement and Powerscourt House, County Wicklow until the 1980's and were to be seen flying occasionally in the area.

Goofs
Just before Stachel and Willi fly under the bridge, the facial shots of George Peppard show the aircraft's elevator raised. This would result in a nose high attitude, continuing round in a loop. The external shots show him flying straight and level.

When Stachel and Willi attack five British fighters head-on, Willi shoots down two of them in the initial pass. Stachel's guns jam, and while he is trying to free them, he is jumped by one of the remaining British fighters. Willi comes to his aid and shoots it down, for a mission total of three, not two as was subsequently discussed in the following scene.

No fighter aircraft of any nation ever fired machine guns by having the pilot reach up and pull a large lever. The guns were triggered by levers mounted on the control stick which pulled wire cables up to the guns.

Quotes
Willi von Klugermann: [Willi finds out about Stachel and Kaeti in Berlin] We've tolerated you here because we've had to! One day, Stachel - or should I call you Bruno? One day, I'm going to shake you up considerably. I wonder if you're as good as you think you are... in or out of bed.

General Count von Klugermann: Stachel. I want him brought to Berlin immediately.

Bruno Stachel: [resignedly] Well, I suppose I might as well say it.
