Subject of David Sedaris' story (of the same name) in his 2004 book "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim."

Neil Jordan wanted his longtime collaborator, composer Elliot Goldenthal to do the film, but Goldenthal was committed to score Titus (1999) for his companion, Julie Taymor. John Barry was considered, and he wrote a demo theme for the film, which ended up on his 2001 solo album "Eternal Echoes," but Jordan eventually settled on Michael Nyman.

Miranda Richardson and Kristin Scott Thomas were both considered for the role of Sarah Miles, before Julianne Moore personally wrote a letter to director Neil Jordan, asking for the part in the film. Her method worked, and she was offered the role.

Bendrix has just finished putting Sarahs stocking on and attaching the garter strap. In the next shot he puts her shoe on a foot clearly not wearing a stocking.

When Henry storms out of the pub after Bendrix tells him about Smythe, Bendrix finishes off his whisky in one gulp. In the next shot, there is still some whisky in the glass.

When Henry and Bendrix embrace, Henry puts his arm around Bendrix twice.

Sarah: Tell Him I'm sorry. I'm too human. Too weak. Tell Him I can't keep my promises. I'm tired of being without you.

Sarah: You see I never stopped loving you, even though I couldn't see you.

Sarah: I had tempted fate, and fate had accepted.
