Despite their decades work in the film industry and high profile status, this is the first film in which Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep co-star.

The film, although sometimes accurate, doesn't, at any point, follow the sequence of the novel.

When Jonas is fleeing through various terrain and weather conditions at the end of the movie, his wardrobe changes a number of times and he is finally wearing a thick winter parka. All the while he never has a backpack or bag or anything with him and the baby when he initially flees on the motor bike. And where could he have even gotten a spare parka from anyway since the whole society was climate controlled to perpetual summer-like conditions?

When Jonas is running from the nursery and he passes through the first set of doors the crib that is supposed to have Gabe in it is empty.

When Jonas and the Giver walk home from their first meeting they pass by some people assembling a tree. From this point on the shot is flopped (Giver is to Jonas' right and the brake lever and swing arm of the front wheel fork of the bike are on the left side). The image stays mirrored until they they separate, when Jonas asks about the one before him.

Jonas: Fiona, what do you feel?

Jonas: My name is Jonas. I don't have a last name. None of us did. That day, the day before graduation, I admit it: I was scared. Tomorrow we'll be assigned our jobs. Our purpose. It seemed everyone knew theirs already. Not me. I was lost. I always felt like I saw things differently. I saw things other people didn't. I never said anything. I didn't want to be different. Who would?

Jonas: If you do not feel... What's the point? What can you do?
