Trivia
The script was barely 29 pages long. Zak Penn had the actors improvise.

With the exception of the character conversations away from the game, the entire final table scene was unscripted. The directors chose to play the entire final table for real, meaning that they did not know in advance which of the characters would win, and thus how the movie would end. Because of 'Ray Romano''s shooting schedule, the scene between Lainie and Fred had to be filmed before the final table had been played. Two different scenes were shot to allow for Lainie to either win or lose. The alternative scene is included on the DVD.

(at around 39 mins) when "The German" claims to have played Russian roulette with slave traders, the picture clearly shows him holding a pistol with a magazine, and not a revolver.

Quotes
Mike Werbe: Every time you play a hand of you poker you wanna run through a mental check list. Head Position Hand Position Neck Position Breathing Posture. More than 25 items. It's a lot. And that why I've come up with a handy mnemonic device. Just one word: HPHPNPBPECMSPAMDCPAFTSTTL. It's easy.

Harold Melvin: Ruth, if I were a food critic, I would give your cooking five stars -- five stars that had each collapsed into a black hole and merged to form the largest black hole in the universe.

Phil Gordon: I think that's a terrible mistake, Mike.
