Trivia
Michael Irvin played a practical joke on Bill Romanowski while filming a scene in the locker room. Irvin replaced the fake, collapsible locker door that Romanowski head butts with a real, solid locker door. This can be seen as an outtake on the DVD.

Chris Berman's play call of "Look at that little Meggett run!" is a reference to a famous NFL Monday Night Football (1970) incident. Howard Cosell's original call of "Look at that little monkey run!" in describing Washington Redskin Alvin Garrett sparked a controversy and accusations of racism because Garrett was black. Berman even tries to imitate Cosell's voice on the call. Berman also used this line and voice on ESPN when describing the play of former New York Giants running back Dave Meggett.

Goofs
In the scene where Crewe is stopped by police, he flees the scene. As he leaves the police officers are both shown talking on their portable radios at the same time. Assuming they are partners riding in the same car, they would be operating on the same radio frequency. Thus, they would not both be able to transmit at the same time, because it would just be jumbled garbage to anyone (dispatcher) listening.

When Scarborough is giving them the trick play for the final points, Deacon is shown standing right next to him with his helmet off. Immediately after that, Deacon is not beside Scarborough, and he has his helmet on. Then immediately after that, he's next to Scarborough again, with his helmet off again.

Q
What is point shaving and why did Paul get banned for it?
A
Point shaving in sports is deemed as intentionally foregoing points or intentionally giving the other team points. While never proven, Paul gets accused for playing poorly on purpose to negatively affect the score of the game. As we find out later in the movie, Paul got in financial debt (likely with loan sharks) and probably made a deal to fix the score of a game to avoid a debt. In the game vs. the guards, Paul does appear to intentionally throw an interception to shave more points to avoid life imprisonment due to the warden's threat. This is similar to what the 1919 Chicago White Sox did in the world series (losing/playing badly on purpose due to gambling implications). This match throwing scandal nearly destroyed major league baseball and as a result, professional sports have a zero tolerance for players purposely playing badly due to gambling implications. In real life, eight players on this team did get banned from baseball for losing on purpose and/or getting involved with gamblers.
