Q
Question Relating to Movie and Book
A
In the book upon which this movie is based, Bobby Bentley, the plebe, is portrayed as a person of infinite courage, one who is persecuted to the very ends of the human spirit by the Cadre.Just before Christmas of the plebe year, THE TEN, a secret dark group within the inner sanctum of the Institute finally does something to force Bentley to resign.Clearly, Pat Conroy is basing this chapter of his book on a real person and a real event. As provost of a school, I am interested in discovering what happened to that student. Who is he, and what did his life hold after the Institute?I want to know what could possibly have been presented to this courageous student so late in the game that made him resign. (Threats to family?)I realize that the Institute has changed dramatically since that time, but, still, even from an historical perspective, as well as good theater, it would resonate well with audiences to know what happened to Bobby Bentley.
