Part of a run of mid-1980s box-office flops for the film's director Sidney Lumet which also included the same 1986 year's Power (1986) and 1984's Garbo Talks (1984).
Despite the film's critical drubbing and commercial failure at the box-office the picture was still able to garner an Oscar nomination which was for Jane Fonda for the Best Actress Academy Award but Fonda lost out to Marlee Matlin for Children of a Lesser God (1986).
