AThe series is ending after the three stories (six two parters), that Sladen shot prior to passing, air this October.
AElisabeth Sladen, Thomas Knight, Daniel Anthony and Alexander Armstrong will all return in the second series. Yasmin Paige, Joseph Millson and Juliet Cowan will all depart from the series after appearing in just the opening story, "The Last Sontaran".In the second story, "Day of the Clown", the Chandra family will be introduced to Bannerman Road as permanent replacements for the departing Jackson family. Ace Bhatti will play father Haresh Chandra throughout the series, whilst Mina Anwar will play mother Gita and Anjli Mohindra will play daughter Rani, who will effectively replace the character of Maria Jackson. Also, in the fourth story of this new series, entitled "The Mark of the Berserker", Paul Langer (as played by Gary Beadle) and Carla Langer (as played by Jocelyn Jee Esien) will be introduced as Clyde Langer's never-before-seen parents and they are expected to remain in the series through to the final story. The regular cast of the second series will therefore consist of Elisabeth Sladen, Thomas Knight, Daniel Anthony, Anjli Mohindra, Ace Bhatti, Mina Anwar, Gary Beadle, Jocelyn Jee Esien and Alexander Armstrong."The Last Sontaran" will guest star Christopher Ryan and Dan Starkey, "Day of the Clown" will guest star Bradley Walsh, "Secrets of the Stars" will guest star Russ Abbott and "Enemy of the Bane" will guest star Samantha Bond, reprising her role as the villainous Mrs. Wormwood from 2007's "Invasion of the Bane". This final story will also feature the return of Doctor Who fan favourite Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, again played by Nicholas Courtney, who appeared in several stories of the original Doctor Who series between the '60s and the '80s. It is also likely that the Jacksons will return to Bannerman Road for this final story. From Yasmin Paiges filmography by series, she is listed as appearing in five of the season two episodes, after having one of the leading roles in all eleven episodes of season one. Three episodes is closer to reality, both Sontaran and then the second of Berserker.
