When Jami and Nick are talking to Charles Pierce Jr, he tells them that Sewell was in custody when McCreedy was killed. In real life, the prime suspect was arrested after two months since McSpadden was killed. Charles Pierce Jr also states "It should have been front page news but while Arkansas police were finding' McCreedy, the Texas police were arresting Sewell." Truthfully, the police did not find each one at the same time and the story of McSpadden was on the front page of the May 8 edition of the Texarkana Gazette.

When Jami gets a call from Corey's cellphone, it says "12:40p" on her phone screen. Considering it was the middle of the night, that time is incorrect.

Q
Is this a remake?
A
No. This is a meta-sequel. The meta part is that the original film exists in this film, and the sequel part is that it continues the story of the murders that the original movie is based on. It is not the original move remade, nor is it a reboot.
