William B. Davis, who plays the Cigarette Smoking Man, is a former smoker who had quit by the time he was cast in this series. At first, the cigarettes he smoked in this role were real, until he became aware that he was having cravings for tobacco when not filming. At his request, the cigarettes used from then on were herbal.

Throughout the series when we see a closeup of CGB Spender's/The Smoker's ashtray while he is extinguishing his cigarette, the filters of the "smoked" cigarettes already in the ashtrays are perfectly white, while they should be yellow/brown from the nicotine-smoke. This indicates that they are props, placed there before shooting and not cigarettes smoked by the characters.

It certainly appears so, though there still exists some doubt.In the episode #9.19, The Truth, Scully confesses to Mulder that she "gave up our son" referring to hers and Mulder's.On the X-Files page of the Sci-Fi website, there are Syndicate reports on Mulder and Scully that describe how William was conceived and who his father is. The reports say that William was created from genetic material harvested from Mulder and Scully.The answer is in The X-Files I Want to Believe movie, and it's positive. Mulder is William's father.

I heard there is a Season 10 of this series. Is that true?

IDW Publishing launched an X-Files: Season 10 comic book series on June 19, 2013. The season takes place after the second film and offers an ongoing, in-canon continuation of the franchise. Chris Carter executive produces the series similarly to how Joss Whedon continued Buffy The Vampire Slayer in comic book form after that television show ended.
