Vincent Price appeared as the Duke of Clarence in the original version released by Universal Pictures Tower of London (1939).

The original tag line "Do you have the courage to spend 83 minutes in the Tower of London?" was slightly off, since the film's running time was only 79 minutes.

According to producer Gene Corman, he and his brother, director Roger Corman, considered leaving the production several times due to the cost-cutting measures forced on them by uncredited executive producer Edward Small.

Just after Richard throws the ax through the stained glass window, you can see the shadow of the camera crane on the floor, rising higher and higher and pulling back.

As Richard bends down to kiss the forehead of King Edward, who was dead his bed, you can see King Edward squinting both of his eyes slightly.

When Richard pushes the freshly murdered Clarence into the vat, you can see Clarence take a deep breath and hold it, just prior to being submerged.

Richard of Gloucester: Mistress Shore is dead... As Protector of the Realm, I can not tolerate treachery to the Crown... Mistress Shore has been executed for such treachery.

Opening Narrator: The Tower of London - a monument to the corruption of the soul, wherein the shadowed past a man gained the throne of England despite the insane ambition that drove him to evil and murder. He escaped the headsman's block but he could never escape the ghosts of his conscience. It is the night of April ninth in the year fourteen eighty three, the night that Edward IV, King of England, will die. Rumours that the King is on his deathbed have filled London and the people await the booming of the cannon on the battlements, for this will be the signal that Edward IV is no more.

Richard's mother: I brought this curse upon this house when my womb concieved you... Better I should have died in my labor... and never unleashed your evil... upon this Earth.
