ANo. The film is actually very little like the novel. The basic premise is the same and some of the themes are carried onto the film, but much of the plot is unlike its source material. Jonathan Glazer described the movie as having a sort of "spiritual connection" to the book; for example, in the book, the woman gets into a car accident and self-destructs, causing her ashes to fly into the air and join with the earth, but in the movie, she is almost raped and is then murdered, her ashes also flying into the sky. Also, in the book, the aliens are described to resemble canines in appearance, while in the movie, they are humanoids with almost no features and onyx black skin.
