The scenes depicting Dallas, Texas were based on Tina Turner's real-life domestic violence fight where Ike Turner and Tina were scheduled to perform at the Dallas Statler Hilton in July 1976. This was depicted in Tina's autobiography in graphic detail (including her walking to the Ramada Inn Plaza Hotel across the way) - the reference to her having 36 cents and a Mobil credit card was real. The Statler Hilton was sold in early 2011 to a real estate developer who intends to restore the hotel to its original state as it first appeared in 1956.
In a scene dated 1968, Ike and Tina open for the Rolling Stones, doing "Proud Mary." The Stones didn't do any concerts in 1968; Ike and Tina opened for them in 1969. Creedence Clearwater Revival's original version was released in 1970.
When Lorraine shoots herself in the bathroom, Ike Jr. (a toddler) runs into the bathroom. A few moments earlier, you can see a shadow of a person on the door, waving at the baby to "come here."
Tina Turner: [to the audience]
You know, every now and then, I think you might like to hear something from us nice and easy. But there's just one thing: we never, ever do nothing nice and easy, we always do it nice and rough. So we're gonna take the beginning of this song and do it easy, and then we're gonna do the finish rough. That's the way we do Creedence Clearwater's "Proud Mary".
