Trivia
In 1982 Susan Stafford decided to leave the show to pursue a career in humanitarian work. Three ladies tried out for the letter turning hostess job including Summer Bartholomew, Vicki McCarty and Vanna White. White was immediately picked as Stafford's permanent replacement, after being discovered, especially with her friendly personality. Her first appearance in that capacity, televised on Monday, December 13th, 1982 and the first letter she turned as the official hostess on the show was a "T". T is also a letter in all 4 hostess' last names. Evidence: Susan Stafford, Summer Bartholamew', 'Vicki McKarti (I)' & Vanna White.

After the 2nd pilot bombed Lin Bolen still believed in the show and made a last ditch plea to NBC. Bolin made a deal with them, to put Wheel of Fortune (1975) on the air and if it's no good NBC could fire her, but if it works she gets a raise. NBC executives gave Wheel of Fortune a green light but wanted Chuck Woolery back as host. The first episodes of Wheel of Fortune were taped in December of 1974 and premiered in 1975. Within weeks, it became not only the #1 show on NBC daytime, but the #1 show on daytime period.

Lin Bolen had made plans to cancel "Jeopardy!" but Merv Griffin's contract stated he could produce a replacement show. Griffin and his staff worked on a concept that was similar to Hangman to be pitched to NBC. Merv approached 32 year old Chuck Woolery and convinced him to give being a game show host a shot and in September 1973 they began shooting the "Shoppers Bazaar" pilot in NBC studios in Burbank. Bolin and Griffin did not like what they saw and test audiences were also not enthusiastic about the game.
