Mavis' drink of choice is a Maker's Mark. In Juno (2007), also directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody, when Vanessa offers drinks, Juno asks for a Maker's Mark up.
One of Matt Freehof's dolls is Nite Owl, one of the original members of the Minutemen, the team of vigilante heroes featured in Watchmen (2009). Patrick Wilson portrayed Nite Owl II in the same film.
After Mavis gets her nails done in dark blue, she is at KFC writing when Buddy calls her. Her nails are blue during the entire phone call, but the right before she hangs up the phone they are suddenly unpainted. In the next scene they are back to blue.
Mavis's car, earlier in the movie when struck to a post in the parking lot, has only the bonnet deformed with lights intact. Later when she is shown driving it again the lights are messed up too.
Mavis orders a Maker's Mark and then gulps down 2/3, then when she goes to drink again, the glass is full again. However, Mavis pours more of the Maker's Mark into the glass and finishes it, she then proceeds to grab an already poured full glass of wine from the table.
Beth did. Just before she prints the picture, you can see it says "From: Beth Shade". Later Mavis discusses this with her Asian friend over coffee and says "When you send something this soon, its to the inner circle, right ? Its not to the ex-girlfriend of the father who doesn't speak to him anymore", which confirms it wasn't sent by the father (Buddy) of the baby.
Q
Did Beth know about...
A
... Mavis' miscarriage? Its possible but never explicitly depicted.Theory 1 (more obvious): Beth just regarded Mavis as a long forgotten ex of Buddy. She invited Mavis to the naming because she wanted to help her. In Beth's mind, past was 17 years back and not very important anymore.Theory 2 (less obvious): She knew about the miscarriage and always hated Mavis in school. Also, possibly felt insecure. So sending Mavis the baby card was a declaration of victory that "Buddy is mine" and rubbing it in her face. Calling her to the naming ceremony was also part of the whole charade. Most of the actions from Beth's character are ambiguous enough to be considered for either theory. When other band members were bitching about Mavis - she didn't join in - on one hand it shows that the hatred among women for the popular highschool girl never went out. But the fact that Beth doesn't join in the bitching shows that maybe she is too mature.
