While AIDS was noted in his death certificate, Merritt also had pneumonia, and on March 10, had been given a spinal tap to relieve cranial pressure on his brain.
Best remembered for his role as Dr. David Marcus in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984).
