The first letters of the four lead characters in the movie (in Hindi) are the source for the title of the movie. i.e. Gopal, Laxman, Madhav, Lucky.

A film with same name (Gol Maal (1979)) was made in 1979, starring Amol Palekar. The film had the word 'golmaal' written in it's logo, in such a way that the letters of the word 'golmaal' fitted in a circle. The same was done in the 2006 film, probably as a tribute to the original film.

Ajay's bike stunt is a tribute to his bike stunt from Phool Aur Kaante.
