In this series, the term "U.F.O." is usually not "spelled out". Most often, it is pronounced as a word: "you-foh." Only automated systems like the voice of the computer on the interlink satellite pronounce it "you-eff-oh".

On December 31, 1994 the video game company Microprose released a game called "UFO: Enemy Unknown", known as "X-COM: UFO Defense" in the US. While not directly based on the TV series it has been confirmed that many elements were directly inspired by the UFO TV series.

The series was filmed at two separate studios due to the untimely closure of MGM's Borehamwood Studios. Pinewood Studios became the final studio after a six month wait for availability. Because of this, many of the non-contractually obligated actors left to pursue other projects, making recasting a necessity for some roles.

Although set (and filmed) in England, all the futuristic cars are left-hand drive, and everyone drives on the right-hand side of the road. Several other series by the Andersons featured the same driving system, presumably because England was predicted to switch over sometime before the future events depicted. Flashback scenes showed the "normal" English driving arrangement.

The exterior shots of the moonbase interceptors clearly show the cockpit canopies extend for another foot or so behind the pilot, yet in the interior shots of the ships, there are switches and dials overhead.

Any time the Moon Base interceptors are ordered to return to base without having fired their missiles, a stock shot is used showing the missiles gone.

Alec Freeman: I certainly have to hand it you. That Miss Fraser. She didn't have you fooled for a moment. That'd been me then I probably would have got myself emotionally involved or something.

Col. Paul Foster: You know, death's never worried me before but right now I'm scared.

Ed Straker: Imagine a dying planet in some distant corner of the universe. Its natural resources exhausted. Its inhabitants sterile. Doomed to extinction. A situation we may one day find ourselves in, gentlemen. So they discover earth. Abundant, fertile. Able to satisfy their needs. They look upon us not with animosity, but callousness. As we look upon our animals that we depend on for food. Yes, it appears they are driven by circumstance across a billion miles of space, driven on by the greatest force in the universe - survival.
