Trivia
Wim Wenders originally wanted Peter Handke to collaborate on the script. Handke declined to work on the script as a whole but agreed to write a set number of important scenes which Wenders could then work around.

The scene where Otto Sander is shown riding a bus looking morose, with his head in his hands, was shot that way because the actor had developed a large bald spot on the day of shooting and makeup couldn't hide it.

Goofs
In one of the opening shots where the camera circles a tower, more like a radio transmitting one, the spinning helicopter blades can be seen at the top of the frame

When Cassiel is crossing the street, there is a bus coming. You can hear the bus driver let off the accelerator to allow the actor to pass, and then accelerate when he is clear. But the character is an angel, which adults cannot see, yet by the sound of the bus, it is clear that the bus driver sees him.

Peter Falk: Yellow star means death. Why did they pick yellow...? Sunflowers. Van Gogh killed himself...

Marion: Longing. Longing for a wave of love that would stir in me. That's what makes me clumsy. The absence of pleasure. Desire for love. Desire to love.

Q
What does the Japanese woman say in the rock club?
A
There is a scene where Damiel visits a rock club and smiles after overhearing the thoughts of a Japanese woman in the crowd. On the Criterion DVD the voice over of the woman's thoughts are not subtitled. They are however subtitled on the earlier VHS editions as follows:"I'm glad I came here. I don't hear everything. The people aren't watching. Maybe Heaven is watching."
